Encyclopedia > Mixed doubles

Mixed Doubles is a play that was first performed on 6 February 1969 in the Hampstead Theatre Club under the title We Who Are About To... The play consists of short scenes written by various English actors. The main theme in the dialogues is marriage. The scenes give an image of marriage from the moment of blessing up until the silver wedding anniversary. In between the dialogues, a large number of people is being put on stage in various professional capacities. The people in Mixed Doubles are plagued by everyday trivialities, their past, their job, and their marital problems. Even though marriage is presented as a struggle, the subtitle, "an entertainment on marriage", can provide one with the information that many scenes have been given an ironic touch by both the authors and the actors. Badminton Central : Mixed Doubles (2253 words)
Mixed doubles is sometimes referred to as "singles with interference." This is because of the impression that the woman cannot compete in the back court or on even terms with the man. The man controls the play so that most of the birds are returned in his direction.
The front and back system in mixed doubles is the basic style of attack with the woman ready to hit down all shuttles at the front of the court and her partner ready to smash from the back.
These half-court returns mixed with long flat drives to the body of the man or to the corners of the deep court, together with occasional drop-shots played to the corner of the net away from the woman, are the best returns against another "front and back" pair.
Badminton mixed double strategy (1690 words)
In this discussion of mixed doubles, I am assuming both men and women wish to play mixed doubles and are prepared to accept their proper responsibilities.
Since the man in conventional mixed covers the court area bounded by the front service line, the side lines and the back line, he must serve from the centre of this area so he will be in position for the ensuing return.
In conventional mixed doubles the offensive court is divided into two zones with the woman responsible for the up zone from the net to about a foot behind the front service line.
