History

The Mmrnmhrm were an entirely robotic, though sentient, race of unknown origin. They first appeared when a huge mothership, the "Mother Ark" (possibly a Precursor artifact) had appeared within the vicinity of Procyon, began manufacturing numerous Mmrnmhrm and then either stopped by design or malfunctioned. Not much else is known, although the Mmrnmhrm may share an origin in common with the Daktaklakpak. The Mmrnmhrm are assumed to have been on an advanced terraforming mission for whoever it was that sent them. For other uses, see robot (disambiguation). ... Not to be confused with sapience. ... The Daktaklakpak are a fictional race of aliens from the sci-fi computer game Star Control 3. ...

Upon arrival in Procyon, the Mmrnmhrm met with the Chenjesu who would later become the leaders of the Alliance of Free Stars. The Mmrnmhrm and Chnjesu shared the same region of space in peaceful coexistence and when the Ur-Quan armada appeared in this region of space they were the core group that formed the Alliance of Free Stars to try and fight back the enslavers. The Chenjesu are a fictional race of aliens from the sci-fi computer game Star Control. ... This article needs to be cleaned up to conform to a higher standard of quality. ...

The War

Evidently, the Ur-Quan met with furious resistance to their enslaving efforts. The combined Mmrnmhrm-Chenjesu might held the line for a long time against the Ur-Quan, Ilwrath, Spathi and Umgah. Game-wise, both the Mmrnmhrm Transformer and the Chenjesu Broodhome class vessels are very efficient against those races and their respective ships. The Spathi are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series. ... The Umgah are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series. ...

In the end the Ur-Quan had no choice but to bring in their awe-inspiring [Sa-Matra|Sa-Matra]] battle platform, a precursor ship so powerful that it incinerated the finest Broodhomes and Transformers easily. Against the might of the Sa-Matra, the Mmrnmhrm and Chenjesu faced a poor choice of either surrendering or being eradicated.

The Mmrnmhrm chose to join the Chenjesu in passive slavery on the Chenjesu homeworld in the Procyon system. Their sphere of influence and whatever planets they may have inhabited were taken over by the Ilwrath.

The Process

The Chenjesu and Mmrnmhrm did not concede defeat simply for the sake of avoiding anihiliation. As soon as the Ur-Quan armada left Procyon, they began a complex process which intended to merge the crystalline Chenjesu with the robotic Mmrnmhrm. Their intention was to form a hybrid race, possessed of all the good qualities of both races. Their long-ranged plan was that when the Process has been complete, the new race would crack the slave-shield over their world and be powerful enough to combat and defeat the Sa-Matra. The Process was supposed to take several decades and as there was no better power source for it than solar power. In communications done through the slave shield with the protagonists, they have warned that any attempt to hasten the process may be extremely dangerous. Look up hybrid in Wiktionary, the free dictionary. ...

Physiology

Physically, the Mmrnmhrm are robotic beings that resemble a series of metal disks. A sensor device of some sorts inhabits the top disk, probably acting as "eyes" to the Mmrnmhrm. They did not have any reproductive organs and since they did not possess the ability to build more of their kind, their number was finite and declining as the Mother Ark that produced them faltered.

A notable evidence to their sentience is manifested in the fact that the Mmrnmhrm were just as vulnerable to the Syreen Psionic control weapon as any other organic race. Spoiler warning: The Syreen are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series. ...

Language

The entire Mmrnmhrm language consists of what humans would consider consonants.

Culture

Little is known about the Mmrnmhrm culture. The common belief is that the Mmrnmhrm are a terraforming advance group preceding a colonizing alien race. Whether or not that is actually true may never be known. The Mmrnmhrm were peaceful in their expansion, as noted by the cowardly Spathi high council: "They have attempted to colonize a planet within our sphere of influence. When we requested that they kindly leave, they did and never bothered us again". Seeing how the cowardly Spathi wouldn't have used force or even issued threats, the Mmrnmhrm withdrawal indicates their inhostility. The Spathi are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series. ...

Aftermath

When the protagonists radically hastened the Process, the Mmrnmhrm were instantenously merged with the Chenjesu to form the Chmmr. It soon became clear that whatever the result the Mmrnmhrm and Chenjesu were expecting, the Chmmr weren't it. It is believed that no "pure blooded" Mmrnmhrm or Chenjesu were left unmerged. Mmrnmhrm Transformer

General Description: Commonly referred to as the X-form or X-former, the Mmrnmhrm Transformer's greatest power lies in its versatility. While most ships are vulnerable either to quick hit-and-runs attacks by fast ships or cannot hope to match the bigger ships' firepower and large crew complements, The Mmrnmhrm is one of merely three ships that can always do something against the enemy, regardless of which ship they are flying against. In competent hands, the Transformer is more than a match to nearly any ship.

  • Crew Complement: Fair
  • Battery Size: Poor

Special System: Transformation Linkages: At the power cost of its entire battery the Mmrnmhrm switches from the slow but agile wings-to-the-side configuration (henceforth referred to as Laser-form) to a swift, slow-turning wings-pulled-back configuration (henceforth referred to as Jet-form). In this transformation mechanism, probably inspired by Earthly Variable geometry wing configuration used by the F-14 Tomcat and F-111 jet fighters, lies the entire power of the Transformer, in effect introducing two different ships into one. As seen in the following description, the linkages give the Transformer a very good speed, good turning rate, good acceleration, long-ranged standoff weapons and the ability to inflict massive damage. When correctly twined, the combination of both configurations turn the Transformer into one the finest ships you'll ever fly. A swing-wing is a type of pivoted wing planform that attempts to combine the advantages of a swept wing at high speeds, while avoiding its problems at lower speeds. ... The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable geometry wing aircraft. ... A U.S. Air Force F-111 The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark (the nickname was unofficial for most of its lifespan, but it was officially named Aardvark at its retirement ceremony for the United States Air Force) is a long-range strategic bomber, reconnaissance, and tactical strike aircraft. ...

  • Damage: None

Description: Laser-form: The standard Laser-form, reminiscent of our own Earth fighter jets, is very slow but can turn on a dime to bring its dual cone-shape-firing lasers to bear. Extremely useful against small ships that rely on evasiveness to bring their short-ranged weapons to bear such as the Arilou Skiff and Pkunk Fury. The massive damage the Lasers do allows an experienced pilot to use the Jet-form's immense speed to close in quickly, transform to Laser-form, inflict a short but harmful burst of lasers and then sail away quickly, returning to the Jet-form. Spoiler warning: Arilou (short for Ariloulaleelay) are a fictional race of beings featured in the sci-fi Star Control computer game series who belong to the Alliance of Free Stars. ... The term skiff is applied to various river craft, but a skiff is typically a small flat-bottomed open boat with a pointed bow and square stern. ... Spoiler warning: The Pkunk are a fictional race of beings featured in the Star Control computer game series, introduced in the second game. ... Look up fury in Wiktionary, the free dictionary. ...

  • Speed: Very poor
  • Turning Rate: Superb

  • Weapon: Dual lasers, firing in a cone shape.
  • Weapon Range: Very short
  • Weapon Power: Extreme
  • Battery Cost: Extreme

Description: Jet-form: The Jet-form is the complete anti-thesis to the Laser-form. Sacrificing the turning rate and massive damage, The wings-back configuration uses an afterburner to achieve great speeds and uses twin missile launchers in a slow attrition battle against the bigger, stronger ships like the Ur-Quan Dreadnought. The Jet-form is very ineffective against fast ships that can match its speed and is only useful at standoff range. Evading long-ranged shots with the Jet-form is an art difficult to master.
