Mohsen Mehralizadeh (in Persian: محسن مهرعلیزاده) is a Vice President of Iran and the head of the National Sports Organization of Iran under President Khatami. He is a member of Islamic Iran Participation Front.


Mehralizadeh was the governor of the Khorasan in Khatami's first term of presidency.


Presidential ambition

Mehralizadeh announced his ambition for presidentcy on December 29 and said he is the candidate for young generation. He has received some support from Majlis representatives of Guilan, Azerbaijan and Khorasan.

Mohsen Rezaee, one of the approved conservative candidates, who is the Secretary of Expediency Discernment Council and a previous commander of the Iran-Iraq war, withdrew in the evening of June 15.
Mehralizadeh has first announced that he will be running for the post on behalf of the Iranian younger generation, but not if the reformist alliance reaches consensus on another candidate, but during the registration mentioned that he will remain in the race until the end.
The most important withdrawal was that of Mohsen Rezaee, one of the candidates who was approved by the Guardian Council and participated in the race until the the evening of June 15, 2005, two days before the election and only a few hours before the final deadline allowed for advertisements.

Prospective candidate Mehralizadeh was born in Maragheh, East Azerbaijan province, in 1956 and holds a doctorate in economics.
Mehralizadeh served within the Ministry of Heavy Industries from 1985-90, was managing director of the Kish Island Development Organization from 1990-92, deputy for power plants at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran from 1993-95, and served as managing director of the Shahed Investment Company from 1995-97.
Mehralizadeh was governor general of Khorasan province from 1997-2001, and he has served as vice president and head of the national Physical Education Organization since 2001.
