The second "unofficial" currency in Moldova is therefore - USD, currently rating at 1 USD = 12,8 MDL (Jan.2006). After the creation of the European Union the third "unofficial" currency became EUR, currently rating at 1 EUR = 15,6 MDL (Jan.2006). These currency rates are strogly influenced by the political and economical instability of Moldova.
