CMT.com : Moon Mullican : Biography (1329 words)
Mullican had already made a habit of hanging out at the roadhouses in East Texas, taking in the blues and barrelhouse music that poured off of their stages along with the rougher sides of life.
Mullican was a star in the world of country music, and may have had more influence there than the sales of his records would lead one to believe.
Mullican was a little too open-minded ever to get his real due at the time, and had to content himself with record sales figures and a healthy audience for his performances.
MOON MULLICAN - BLUESMAN: (992 words)
Example: Moon Mullican (the subject of this site) was one of the founders of honky tonk and was as stated very much a blues singer; Webb Pierce on the other hand was a honky tonk singer with minimal blues qualities.
Moon’s performances of "Early morning blues" and "My baby’s gone" are 2 of the greatest and most unsung recordings ever made in the 1950s.
In the 1930s and 1940s and (surprisingly) in the 1960s, Moon was allowed to be himself and in the 1930s and 1940s he himself was the one who called the shots on what he wanted to record.
