Moore is a small municipality in Spartanburg County in the upstate of South Carolina. The population is estimated to be around 300, however, over 5,000 people live in the area designated as the Moore postal area. Moore has no major bodies of water. Agriculture

Moore is famous for its Niven's Apple Farm, one of the largest producers and sellers of apples in Spartanburg County. Corn is also a relevant product. Cattle are the only main livestock.


Entertainment

At one point, Moore was home to the studio of the Marshall Tucker band. The band is now defunct and the studio is no longer used, but it still stands on the Main Street (SC HWY 290) beside the post office and Presbyterian Church. Moore is also the worldwide headquarters of the amateur movie company DUMM Productions DUMM Productions as well as home to post-industrial band In Bathing Light. Moore is also home to Walnut Grove Plantation, one of the first colonial English settlements in South Carolina. It was instrumental as a bastion of patriotism during the Revolutionary War. The community of Moore gathers several times weekly at Mabry's Auction Barn on Highway 417, where individuals bid on items ranging from Ginsu knives and Honeybuns to antique furniture. Moore is the former home of the Bruns Racing Team, which recently refocused its efforts from car racing to airplanes and scuba diving. The former CEO of Bruns still maintains one of the coolest cars south of the Mason-Dixon line.


Education

Moore boasts two schools, both part of the Spartanburg District 5 School system. First is R.D. Anderson Applied Technology and Vocational School, the tech prep center for Byrnes, Dorman, and Woodruff High Schools. River Ridge Elementary is the newest elementary school in Spartanburg District 5.


Religion

Moore is predominantly Southern Baptist, led by churches such as First Baptist Moore and Poplar Springs Baptist. Presbyterians are the second largest influence, with Redeemer Presbyterian Church (ARP) and Centre Point Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). The Church of Christ follows in third. Moore is also home to an active Earth-centered pantheistic group, some of whom attend the Unitarian Universalist Church in Spartanburg. This community regularly celebrates with festive bonfires, although rarely are they skyclad.
