The City of Moreland is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. It has an area of 51.0 square kilometres. In 2001 it had a population of 139,000.

The council and its government area are affectionately known by some residents as the Peoples Republic of Moreland.

In 2004 the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), the Victorian office of the Australian Electoral Commission, conducted a review of the local electorate. The result of this review was the change of electorion method from preferential voting of ten single member wards to proportional representation in three multi-member wards. This change occurred in time for the November 27, 2004 election.

Victorian State legislation has synchronised all local government elections, which are to be held once every four years. The Council members select a Mayor each year from their own ranks.
