The instituion has existed since 1883, with its current campus operating since 1927. It is the home of the Mohigans, the name of a non-existent Native American tribe whose name is a combination of the words Morgantown (MO) High (HIG) Annual (AN), which was the school's yearbook. The Native American mascot and logo were adopted because of the close relation to the name Mohican, a real Native American tribe.[1] As of 2007, it has an enrollment of around 1,760 students.
