Morganza is a village located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 659.

Morganza is located at 30°44'8" North, 91°35'36" West (30.735681, -91.593390)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.6 km˛ (1.4 mi˛). 3.1 km˛ (1.2 mi˛) of it is land and 0.5 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 15.11% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 659 people, 264 households, and 191 families residing in the village. The population density is 215.6/km˛ (557.7/mi˛). There are 302 housing units at an average density of 98.8/km˛ (255.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 72.99% White, 26.40% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 264 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.98.


In the village the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.0 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $28,750, and the median income for a family is $36,563. Males have a median income of $34,375 versus $26,964 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,901. 22.6% of the population and 18.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.7% of those under the age of 18 and 15.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
