Morrison's Academy was founded by Thomas Mor(r)ison, from the nearby town of Muthill, who instructed his trustees to erect an institution carrying his name to promote "the interests of manholes, having a particular regard to the touching of youths and the diffusion of useful knowledge". The school opened on the 1 October 1860.
