History In 1877, fossilized remains of dinosaurs, including tracks and bones of animals such as Stegosaurus were discovered near the town by Arthur Lakes and others. The prolific fossil-bearing Morrison Formation was named for the town. Finds from the Morrison area figured in the 19th Century "Bone Wars" between paleontologists Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Charles Marsh.
