Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is the title for the next game in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. It will be released for Xbox and PlayStation 2 video game consoles, rather than Wii, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. It is worth noting that the designs seen in the render will have different appearances in the final product. Some characters, such as Sub-Zero, appear in the render featuring a costume other than their most recent one (Sub-Zero is shown in his alternate Deadly Alliance costume rather than his Deception attire, though it is worth noting that some screenshots also show him in his DA armor). Fujin, Jarek, Reiko, and Rain have all been given makeovers. This, however, is just going off the above image. Other characters have been given new looks, such as Stryker & Sheeva, as other promotional images have shown this, but the image of all kombatants has them in their MK3/UMK3/MKT attires.

A small controversy has arose from the trailer, which features all the characters on 2 sides (good & evil). This is because Scorpion is on the same side as the evil characters. What is more, he is running alongside Quan Chi, his sworn enemy since MK4, as well as other characters he has made enemies with (such as Shang Tsung). It should be pointed out that all of the neutral characters are running with the evil side. Scorpion is also shown to fight Sub-Zero in the trailer, although ever since Scorpion learned that Quan Chi was the true killer of his family, Scorpion and Sub-Zero have no longer been enemies, so in this case it's confusing. Also, traditional nemeses such as Shao Kahn and Raiden, Kitana and Mileena, and Sub-Zero and Scorpion are seen running towards each other.

Additional information

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon will sum up everything that happened since the first Mortal Kombat game, presumably ending in the destruction of the Mortal Kombat universe (as per the title). It will be the final decider on who will die or who will live and will end the generation of MK fighters. In a sense, Armageddon is "wiping the slate clean", allowing the series to come back with a fresh start.

This will allow the series to enter the next generation consoles with the next generation of Mortal Kombat fighters. While there is no clear information about who will survive, let alone who will emerge as the winner of this latest battle, Ed Boon has already strongly suggested that such fan favorites like Scorpion and Sub-Zero have a high possibility of returning in future Mortal Kombat games, while the GameInformer article suggested that Kurtis Stryker, an unpopular character, will probably die. Kurtis Stryker is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. ...

Many fans have thought of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon to be something similar to Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which featured nearly all the characters from the Mortal Kombat universe, and summed up all the trilogy events of Mortal Kombat 1, II, and 3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy is an anthology in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. ...

In the two new video interviews of John Podlasek (Producer) and Ed Boon (Lead Game Designer) produced by IGN and Gamespot respectively, some interesting tidbits of information have come to light about the upcoming Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

  • Techniques such as Breakers and Parrys can be done in the air
  • Podlasek hints that Konquest mode has TWO characters, one good, one evil
  • Characters are reduced to TWO fighting styles; multiple weapon styles is a possibility
  • Kreate-a-Fighter includes the ability to assign Taunts
  • Weapons are available in Konquest mode, which appears very much like Shaolin Monks
  • In terms of online there is "another thing we really can't talk about right now" - Podlasek
  • Konquest will be set as a race between the 2 characters, Taven and Daegon, who are trying to become their father's successor.
  • The Character select screen is so large it needs to rotate to show all the characters.

At E3 2006 more information was released about the game:

  • Blaze will appear as the main boss of Armageddon
  • Taven will appear as a playable charater
  • Finding unlockables in Konquest will play like Shaolin Monks, eg. tread on a certain spider to unlock a character
  • There are surprise charaters appearing like Meat.
  • Noob and Smoke seemed to appear as one character in the Demo.
  • There will be approx. 20 arenas that will be playable.

Create a Mortal Kombat character feature

Ed Boon recently said at E3:

"There have been a number of create-a-character modes in wrestling and boxing games but we wanted to expand on the areas players had control over,"

"We thought it was important to let them define their attacks as well as the look of their fighters." That’s why Armageddon lets players set their fighting styles, right down to the attack associated with each button.

About how it would work with it's on-line ability:

"It will really be interesting to see how people will play Armageddon online when they have about 60 existing characters to choose from as well as the ability to take their created fighter and go online against other created fighters,"

"The idea of taking your created fighter online and seeing how they measure up to other players’ fighters is going to create the most exciting and unpredictable fighting experience ever."
