Mount Prospect, part of Elk Grove Township, is a village located in Cook County, Illinois about 22 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Illinois. The area that would become the first 160 acres (650,000 m²) of the future village was purchased in 1848 as farmland by Friedrich Busse. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, many people began to move from the city to this area, which includes the towns of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Park Ridge, Illinois. When Mount Prospect finally reached the requisite population of 300 with the birth of Norman Pohlman, it officially incorporated in 1917. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 56,265. Cook County is a county located in the state of Illinois. ...
