Beginnings

The college began in 1875 as a high schoool and junior college. Elizabeth Somers had been teaching young women at her home since 1868. Decline

The high school was closed in the mid-1970's, and the college expanded to four years. This change occured when there was a rapid decline in the number of all-women's colleges in the United States.

The campus was 26 acres.
