Mtwara is one of the southern regions of Tanzania which have been underdeveloped for a long time for various justifiable reasons and constraints. Among the development constraints for Mtwara is not the lack of resources but economic infrastructures of road and energy. Mtwara is now looking up and waking up to enormous development possibilities and exciting times ahead. History

The Groundnut Scheme

In 1948, the British Government formulated the "Tanganyika groundnut scheme" through the Overseas Food Corporation (OFC). The purpose was to alleviate the worldwide shortage of vegetable oils. However, inadequate research and adverse environmental conditions caused by poor planning resulted in the complete and disastrous failure of the scheme. Regional Education office provided two new trophils for netball and football and the District councils paid allowances for the sports teachers who came with the teams in Mtwara for the competetion.
In the Regional level the competetion was started on 5th of June and ended on 7th of June 06 and was opened by the Chairman of Mtwara manicipality and closed by the Regional Administration Secretary.
SDA would like to give special thanks to Regional Education office for their great support in preparing the tournament, their effort has enabled this tournament to be with success.
