Muckle Roe is an island in Shetland, Scotland. It is joined to the Shetland Mainland by a bridge over Roe Sound and has a population of around 100 people. Its highest point is South Ward at almost 200 metres.

It was during her final voyage, between Quebec and Liverpool with a cargo of timber, that the Ayrshire encountered a storm and was wrecked on the southern end of Muckle Roe, Shetland, c.
Muckle Roe is situated on the west side of the Shetland mainland in the middle of a large enclosed bay created by Northmavine to the north and the ‘West Side’ to the south.
That night the anchor chains of the Ayrshire broke and she was run under bare poles into Gilsabight, Muckle Roe, where she was driven ashore in the middle of a snow storm.
