Inverness Township is a township located in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,278.

• Mullett Lake is an unincorporated community on the northwest shore of Mullett Lake at 45°33'56" north latitude, 84°31'45" west longitude. It is on Michigan State Highway 27 about 6 miles southwest of Cheboygan. The community is 604 feet above sea level and the ZIP Code is 49761.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 96.3 km² (37.2 mi²). 87.9 km² (33.9 mi²) of it is land and 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.79% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,278 people, 914 households, and 659 families residing in the township. The population density is 25.9/km² (67.1/mi²). There are 1,226 housing units at an average density of 14.0/km² (36.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.39% White, 0.04% African American, 2.28% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.89% from two or more races. 0.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 914 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 23.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.93.
