Mullett Township is a township located in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,284.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.5 km² (35.7 mi²). 49.3 km² (19.0 mi²) of it is land and 43.1 km² (16.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 46.67% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,284 people, 545 households, and 377 families residing in the township. The population density is 26.0/km² (67.4/mi²). There are 1,076 housing units at an average density of 21.8/km² (56.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 94.00% White, 0.31% African American, 3.74% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.87% from two or more races. 0.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 545 households out of which 26.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.84.


In the township the population is spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.3 males.


The median income for a household in the township is $33,438, and the median income for a family is $36,731. Males have a median income of $29,615 versus $20,284 for females. The per capita income for the township is $18,758. 9.4% of the population and 5.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.2% of those under the age of 18 and 6.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
