A Murshid is the teacher and guide to his disciples (Mureedh). Other words that refer to a murshid include, Pir, Shaikh and Sarkar. A tariqa (order) may have more than one Murshid at a time. A Murshid is accorded that status by his Shaikh by way of Khilafath. Khilafath is the process in which a Shaikh identifies one of his disciples as his successor (Khalifa). A Murshid can have more than one khalifa.
In certain orders, the Khalifa is not allowed to take his own disciples till the lifetime of the murshid. In most orders, the Khalifa can have his own disciples and be their Murshid.

Dr Murshid, formerly of Rajshahi University and a resident of London for several years, is an author with many titles to his credit.
Murshid has been able to show that Rebecca Thompson was an orphan who was three-quarters white (with a British father and a mother who was classified as an ‘Indo-Briton’).
In particular, Murshid shows in detail how Michael projected onto his art his suffering and sense of guilt at the failure of his marriage to Rebecca and his abandonment of his first family.
The Murshid then recites the Fatiah: My God, praise be to you, the lord of the world, the beneficient, the merciful, the master of the day of requital.
The Murshid blows his breath on the water placed in the tumbler, which the disciple drinks.
Lastly the Murshid requests the disciple to close his eyes and places his right hand upon the chest of the disciple and recites the following mantra 3 times: O God, let this heart be blessed by thine light.
