Controversies

Refrigeration issues

While all Naked Juice products are required to be kept refrigerated, the Protein Zone and Carrot Juice flavors have shown to be more prone to rot. The Naked Juice Company recommends that these juices stay below 42 degrees F, citing "temperature abuse" as the cause for this problem, [1] yet these juices remain well-refrigerated at the retailers they're sold at and at the home, and premature sour taste occurs before the expiration date.[citation needed]

Spring 2008 Recipe Changes

All of Naked's Juice appear to have been reformulated in spring of 2008. In general the reformulations appear to have:

  • Increased the amount of apple juice in many products
  • Removed fiber in some juices
  • Increased sugar and calorie content in some juices
  • Reduced vitamin supplements, especially in the Well-Being family of products

In some cases the new formulations tend to not make sense. For example: How can Strawberry-Banana C go from having 6 strawberries to 21, and also double the amount of apples from 1 to 2 without physically increasing the volume of the 15.2oz beverage? One plausible hypothesis is that the size of the fruits has changed. Strawberries, and most berry fruits in general can have a wide variety of sizes. 21 strawberries could be like 2 strawberries depending on the berry size. Apples tend to not vary in size as much as berries.
