One of several community radio associations in Canada, the NCRC/ANREC represents mostly campus-based community radio stations outside of Quebec. As such, the NCRA/ANREC promotes and supports volunteer-based, community-oriented radio broadcasting. Toward this end the NCRA/ANREC works with other regional and international community-oriented radio organizations to provide developmental materials and networking services to its members, representing interests of the sector to government and other agencies (particularly the CRTC), and to promote public awareness and appreciation for community-oriented radio in Canada. History

An earlier, less formal incarnation of the association, the National Campus/Community Radio Organization, was formed in 1981 at the first National Campus Radio Conference, held at Ottawa's Carleton University by 120 representatives from campus and community radio stations from across the country. Dig Your Roots

National Campus and Community Radio Conference (NCRC)

The NCRC is an annual national gathering of community-oriented radio broadcasters who provide alternative radio to a diverse audience. It has been offered every summer since 1981, and it is one of the core activities of the NCRA/ANREC. Usually hosted by a different radio station in different locations each year, the NCRA/ANREC will host the Silver Anniversary Edition of the conference from June 5 - 10, 2006 in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada).
