The National Opinion Research Center (NORC),established in 1941, is one of the largest and highly respected national social research organizations in the United States. Its headquaters are located on the University of Chicago campus, at 1155 E. 60th Street, Chicago. It also has offices in Chicago’s downtown Loop and in Washington DC. NORC conducts social research for government agencies, non-profit agencies and corporations. NORC is best known for national U.S. research studies, especially the General Social Survey. NORC conducts numerous research projects involving opinion survey and other data collection strategies. NORC’s projects are divided into the following five areas: economics and population; education and child development; health survey, program and policy research; substance abuse, mental health, and criminal justice; and statistics and methodology. Within each area, NORC will design and implement surveys and other data collection strategies as well as conduct advanced statistical and other analysis. Social research refers to research conducted by social scientists (primarily within sociology, but also within other disciplines such as social policy, human geography, social anthropology and education). ...
