A National Security Council (NSC)is an executive body which coordinates national security issues and typically includes the heads of departments involved in diplomacy and defense with a small staff. The most famous NSC is the United States National Security Council, but they also exist in Israel (Israeli National Security Council), Russia, Turkey (National Security Council (Turkey)), Pakistan, India, the Republic of China and Taiwan. A National Security Council allows for the security institutions of a nation, including its intelligence and military bodies to provide advice, and therefore, influence policy of a mostly civilian government. For instance, The United States National Security Council was implicated to have organized the Iran-Contra_Affair without approval of the president, and against the wishes and law of the US Congress. Therefore, in this case, it may have acted as an independent foreign policy body of the United States.
