The National Unity of Hope (Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza ) is a political party in Guatemala . At the last legislative elections , 9 november 2003, the party won 17.9 % of the popular vote and 32 out of 158 seats. Its presidential candidate Álvaro Colom Caballeros won 26.4 % at the presidential elections of the same day and was defeated in the second round, where he got 45.9 %. The title of President of Guatemala has been the usual title of the leader of Guatemala since 1851, when that title was assumed by José Rafael Carrera, who had been acting as head of government as general and caudillo since 1840. ...
