Navotas is an important fishing community. Much of the livelihood of the residents are centered on raising fish in the numerous fishpens in the municipality. Some also catch fish in the Manila Bay.
Navotas is part of the informal subregion of Metro Manila called CAMANAVA. This subregion aside from Navotas also comprises the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, and Valenzuela. The area is prone to frequent floodings especially during the rainy season. Floods, pollution, and overpopulation remains the acute problems of this growing town.
