Prince Nawaf has amassed considerable business interests and was, briefly, President of Saudi Arabia's General Intelligence Directorate before a stroke caused him to retire prematurely.


Nawaf's mother was of Armenian decent and his only full living brother is Talal bin Abdul Aziz. Though he is among the 10 oldest living sons of the late King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud, it is unlikely that he has a legitimate claim as a candidate for Saudi Arabia's line of succession, due to extended periods away from postions in government and his Armenian heritage.
