Purvis commented that Pierce Brosnan was the perfect actor to draw out the complex combination of emotion and cold-blood the scene had required: "He is vulnerable without being weak".
Judging from the new Express interview, both Purvis and Wade, who are known as 'The Men With the Golden Pens', have been determined to continue developing the darker side of Bond, but also to give audiences the certain things they expect: the Q scene, the Moneypenny scene, new gadgets, and so on.

In an interview given to Adam Minns (March 11th), the two screenwriters revealed that the screenplay for Bond 21 will retain the infamous torture scene from the novel, together with the chilling line “the bitch is dead”, uttered by 007 towards the end.
Neal Purvis added: “We don’t want to hark back to the old Bond films, because everyone goes on about that.
Purvis responded: “The film started off down-and-dirty and got into the realms of You Only Live Twice and Moonraker, which was fun to do once”.
