The Lincoln Journal Star is Lincoln, Nebraska's major daily newspaper. Owned by Lee Enterprises, the Journal Star was created by the 1995 merger of Lincoln's morning newspaper (the Lincoln Star, established in 1905) and its evening newspaper (the Lincoln Journal, established in 1867 as the Nebraska State Journal). Lee Enterprises, which had owned the Star since 1930, bought the Journal from its local owners, the Seacrest family. The evening paper was discontinued after the merger. It is a remarkable fact that the growth of this "magic city" of the west has been of no mushroom origin, but has grown up steadily and permanently to meet the demands of the country surrounding it.
Paul is the principal city in the Loup valley, twenty-three miles north of Grand Island on the Omaha and Republican Valley railroad, and is surrounded by the finest agricultural and grazing country in the state.
