Encyclopedia > Negev Brigade

The Negev Brigade (aka. 12th Brigade, Hayyot HaNagev in Hebrew) was an Israeli infantry brigade that served in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. It consisted of four Palmach battalions. The Negev Brigade participated in Operation Yoav in the Negev Desert in the latter part of the war.

The force consisted of three infantry brigades, the Negev Brigade, the Givati Brigade and the Yiftach Brigade, an armored battalion from the 8th Armored Brigade and the largest artillery formation that had ever been available to the IDF at the time.
