Nehalem can refer to several things:

  • The Nehalem are a tribe of native Americans peoples who lived in the Pacific Northwest.
  • The Nehalem language, one of the Salishan languages, was spoken by the aforementioned people.
  • The term refers to several places and geographic features in Oregon
  • Nehalem is also a song by the band Everclear which appears on the album Sparkle & Fade; the song is named after the city.
  • Nehalem is a CPU architecture developed by Intel Corporation, rumored to be part of a forthcoming version of the Xeon processer family.

The Nehalem forest supplied streams with plentiful large wood, moderated sediment and stream flows and buffered the watershed from the effects of intense winter storms.
The Nehalem River Watershed Assessment conducted by the Upper and Lower Nehalem Watershed Councils identified 92 percent of the basin's land as dedicated to forestry.

The entire area was helped by the opening of the Coast highway, (U.S.101) that opened in 1941, that connected the north with the southern portion of highway, for the entire length of the state.
