Neptune Beach is a city located in Duval County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,270.

Neptune Beach is located at 30°18'60" North, 81°24'11" West (30.316641, -81.403081)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.7 km˛ (6.8 mi˛). 6.3 km˛ (2.5 mi˛) of it is land and 11.4 km˛ (4.4 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 64.28% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,270 people, 3,282 households, and 1,857 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,145.7/km˛ (2,968.8/mi˛). There are 3,472 housing units at an average density of 547.2/km˛ (1,417.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 96.08% White, 0.73% African American, 0.40% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 2.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 3,282 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% are non-families. 31.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.85.


In the city the population is spread out with 19.3% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 103.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $53,576, and the median income for a family is $65,684. Males have a median income of $43,431 versus $30,264 for females. The per capita income for the city is $30,525. 2.5% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.8% of those under the age of 18 and 2.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The City of Neptune Beach is a community of 7,500 residents located in Duval County on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west.
Neptune Beach comprises approximately 2.5 square miles and is bounded by the City of Atlantic Beach to the north and the City of Jacksonville Beach to the south.
The area remained a part of Jacksonville Beach until the tax revolt of 1931, when on August 11, the residents of Neptune voted 113 to 31 to secede from Jacksonville Beach and incorporate the City of Neptune Beach.
