Nesher (נשר) is a city in the Haifa District in Israel. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), at the end of 2001 the city had a total population of 20,600. Demographics

According to CBS, in 2001 the ethnic makeup of the city was 99.4% Jewish and other non-Arabs, without significant Arab population. In 2001 there were 102 immigrant settlers. According to CBS, in 2001 there were 10,000 males and 10,500 females. The population of the city was spread out with 29.4% 19 years of age or younger, 16.1% between 20 and 29, 24.0% between 30 and 44, 16.0% from 45 to 59, 3.6% from 60 to 64, and 10.8% 65 years of age or older. The population growth rate in 2001 was 0.6%.


Income

According to CBS, as of 2000, in the city there were 8,026 salaried workers and 474 are self-employed. The mean monthly wage in 2000 for a salaried worker in the city is ILS 5,974, a real change of 7.5% over the course of 2000. Salaried males have a mean monthly wage of ILS 7,664 (a real change of 6.5%) versus ILS 4,177 for females (a real change of 5.1%). The mean income for the self-employed is 5,727. Education

According to CBS, there are 9 schools and 3,207 students in the city. They are spread out as 6 elementary schools and 1,695 elementary school students, and 3 high schools and 1,512 high school students. 66.7% of 12th grade students were entitled to a matriculation certificate in 2001.

The IAI Nesher is an Israeli -built multi-role fighter aircraft based on the French Mirage V.
The Nesher ("Eagle") was a complete copy of the Mirage 5, except for the use of some Israeli avionics, a Martin-Baker zero-zero ejector seat, and provisions for a wider range of AAMs, including the Israeli Shafrir heat-seeking missile.
Nesher production was terminated to make way for an improved Mirage derivative that had been in planning in parallel, in which the Atar engine was to be replaced with an Israeli-built General Electric J79 engine, the same engine used on the American F-104 Starfighter and F-4 Phantom II fighters.

The Nesher was the first fighter to be produced in Israel, thus paving the way for the appearance of more advanced planes like the Kfir and Lavi.
The Neshers served in the IAF for just 10 years, and reached the apex of their glory in the Yom Kippur War, during which they scored numerous kills.
Neshers were sold to Argentina, where they were renamed 'Dagger', and saw much action against the British in the Falklands War.
