In the renumbering of 1953, the route that became NJ 31 was designated NJ 69. It was redesignated NJ 31 in 1967 because college students were stealing the NJ 69 signs.
Most of NJ 31 is a two-lane country road, except for six miles in Hunterdon County, New Jersey where it is multiplexed with United States Highway 202. The road was first laid out in the 1700s. In some places, the two lanes became four due to eliminating the shoulders along the side of the road.
NewJersey is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east.
The Foreigner State: In the same vein as "New Spain," this nickname evolved from the humorous gibe to NewJersey, that it was a foreign land filled with foreigners under the social influence of the previous King of Spain.
The NewJerseystate quarter was the third of the five quarters minted in 1999.
