Due to the cancellation of the Somerset Freeway in NewJersey, the section in Pennsylvania and Mercer County, NJ is not contiguous with the main section in NewJersey.
I-495 was supposed to link NewJersey and Long Island, but the portion across Manhattan was never built, and the NewJersey section of the freeway was downgraded to NJ 495.
The highway was damaged and was closed for several hours on the day before Thanksgiving, one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Plaintiff, the United States, and Defendants, the State of NewJersey and the Division of State Police of the NewJersey Department of Law and Public Safety, respectfully move this Court for entry of the attached Consent Decree.
