New Lynn is a residential suburb of Waitakere, one of the four cities that make up the Auckland metropolitan area in northern New Zealand. As at 2003, it has a population of about 7,000.
New Lynn is located towards the west of the Auckland urban area, 10 kilometres to the southwest of the Auckland city centre. It is close to the boundary between Waitakere city and Auckland city, of which the boundary is at the eastern edge of the suburb. Other suburbs surrounding New Lynn include Blockhouse Bay, Avondale, Titirangi and Green Bay.
New Lynn is located at a narrowing of the Auckland isthmus, and one of the two narrowest points joining the North Auckland Peninsula to the rest of the North Island (the other is at Otahuhu, to the southeast). At this point, between the Whau River (an estuarial arm of the Waitemata Harbour) in the north and Blockhouse Bay in the south, the island is a mere 2800 metres wide.
At the southern end of the suburb is one of Auckland's best known golf courses, the Titirangi Golf Course.
Lynn Makiej fell in love with dance while taking classes at a local dance school as a child.
Lynn has performed and competed professionally in many national ballroom competitions and since 1992, began to focus on teaching American Style Ballroom.
DNE continues to grow in popularity with each passing year - Lynn is now in the eighth year of owning and operating one of Greater Boston's greatest dance environments.
NewLynn Community Centre is the first major facility in the city to fully incorporate an arts/design process.
This is essentially a journey through the daily working lives of NewLynn's citizens, taking in the well-known brick making and tanning industries that were central to the early growth of NewLynn.
Threading through the background are superimposed drawings of buildings from NewLynn's past: The NewLynn Hotel built in 1881 and still standing in Great North Road; the first civic building - the Town Board Office built in 1911; and the Delta Cinema which opened in1929 and closed in 1986.
