Greater Sudbury was created in 2001 by amalgamating the cities and towns of the Regional Municipality of Sudbury, along with several previously unincorporated geographic townships.
Sudbury was incorporated as a town in 1883, and as a city in 1930.
Prior to 1973, Sudbury comprised portions of the geographic townships of Neelon and McKim.
Sudbury is a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1949, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1905.
It initially included a large portion of the Sudbury District; in 1952, the boundaries were narrowed significantly to include only the city of Sudbury, the geographic township of McKim and the town of Copper Cliff.
