Original Format: Regional - North America - Hong Kong

From its start in 1994, 15 finalists ( 12 finalists from 1996 onwards ) competed in NTSA Vancouver for the top 2 spots. Those two contestants will then enter the NTSA North American Finals. 12 to 15 regional winners (and some runner-ups) from Canada and the US would compete for the title of North American champion. In 2000, Fairchild TV decided to scrap the NTSA Canadian Finals, and have one representative from each of the three cities that Fairchild TV is based in: Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary ( although sometimes Calgary and Edmonton would combine to produce one contestant representing Alberta ) to compete in the NTSA International Finals. Since this was the case, the winner of the regional competitions in those cities would directly enter the International Finals. The same year, Fairchild TV Vancouver decided to reduce the amount of finalists from 12 to 8, making the competition extremely intense. • 1995 Best Stage Performance Award Winner James Chu (祝鏘鎛) went to Taiwan and was signed by Forward Music, a subsidiary of BMG Entertainment Taiwan. He released an album in 1998 under the stage name 楊軒. However, that album was ill-received, and he was dropped from his label. Since then, he has joined Jungiery (a talent company in Taiwan) and now makes up one half of songwriting duo VJ (who writes for popular groups such as 5566, 183 Club, and K One).
• 1996 Winner Daniel Kwan (關浩正) entered Fairchild Television and become a popular host for several years before deciding to go back to Hong Kong.
• 1996 First Runner-Up Victor Chow (仇耀斌) also became a host with Fairchild Television for a couple of years, often partnered with 1996 Best Stage Performance Award winner Lily Cosnos (邱莉莉). The two were later rumoured to be dating.
• 1997 First Runner-Up Aaron Wong (黃敏豪) later entered Fairchild TV and has hosted various programs until 2001 including a guest stint on What's On in 2000.
• 1998 Winner Jacky Chu (祝釩剛) ( brother of James Chu ) went on to capture First Runner-Up in the NTSA International Finals. He signed with Universal Music Taiwan in 2002 and released a solo album. • In 2004, all of the songs the finalists sang were chosen by Fairchild TV. That was the only year this was the case. All other years had contestants choosing at least one ( if not more ) of the songs they were singing.
• Because Vancouver were to hold the NTSA Vancouver Finals and the NTSA North American Finals in 1994, and the Canadian Finals in 1997 and 1999, the Vancouver Finals those years were less elaborate. The venues were smaller, the program was simpler and there were no special guests. These things were saved for the grand North American/Canadian Finals.
• 1998 Finalist Jennifer Geddes made history for being the first ( and so far, only ) person of full Caucasian descent to compete in the Finals. She is also the first 16 year-old to make it into the Finals, marking her the youngest finalist until 2005, where three 16 year-old finalists joined the ranks as well.
• 1999 Vancouver Winner Chantel Wang 王亞文 became the only NTSA Vancouver winner who did not place in the top 3 in the NTSA North American/Canadian Finals. Instead, first runner-up Jade Kwan 關惠文 won the NTSA Canadian Finals. This is also the only time a Vancouver first runner-up placed higher than the Vancouver winner at the North American/Canadian finals.
• 2002 Winner Rita Leung 梁璟裕 was the 2nd Runner-Up at the Sunshine Girl Pageant 2001 held by Fairchild Radio.
• 2005 Winner Lorretta Chow 周美欣 auditioned for Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2007 has made it as one of the 12 finalists.
• 2005 First Runner-Up Aaron Chan 陳佑綜 was the 1st Runner-Up at the Sunshine Boyz Pageant 2002 held by Fairchild Radio.
• 2005 Semi-Finalist Danielle Li 李東妮 auditioned in the NTSA Toronto Audition in 2006, where she made it into the Finals.
• 2006 Winner John Lam 林子康 was the singer of two winning songs at the Canadian Chinese Songwriter's Quest (加拿大中文歌曲創作大賽) organized by Fairchild Radio: "迷夢" (6th Annual 2001 Winner), "難以拒絕" (9th Annual 2004 Winner).
