The New York Arrows are a soccer team based out of Uniondale, New York that played in the Major Soccer League. They played from 1978 to 1984. Their home arena was Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. They had many star players, including goalie Shep Messing. In 2005 the Arrows were reborn in the National Alliance Soccer League (NASL) buoyed by a TV contract with the TVS Television Network. Football is a ball game played between two teams of eleven players, each attempting to win by scoring more goals than their opponent. ... The New York Raiders, intended by the fledging World Hockey Association to be their flagship franchise, was initially slated to play in the brand-new Nassau Coliseum.
The NHL responded by hastily awarding a franchise to Long Island--the New York Islanders, which forced the Raiders to play in the Madison Square Garden under the shadow of the New York Rangers.
During the New York Islanders run of four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships in the early-1980's, Nassau Coliseum was proudly referred to as "Fort Neverlose" by fans of the team.
