The New York Knights were an American football team which played in the Arena Football League during the 1988 season only. They played their home games at Madison Square Garden. Perhaps their failure to win any games played there was a major factor in ensuring that there would be no subsequent seasons of Knights games there or elsewhere. After going 2-10 overall in their only campaign the team folded. The league was to go several years before attempting to re-enter the nation's largest media market. The team is based in suburban Uniondale, NewYork at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, also home to the NewYork Islanders of the National Hockey League.
The primary figures in the original Iowa organization was Jim Foster, the inventor of Arena Football and Kurt Warner, the quarterback who won the both the NFL MVP award and the MVP for Super Bowl XXXIV.
Aside from the league's desire to re-enter the NewYork market, another major reason cited for the team's relocation was the inadequacy of their Des Moines venue, the Iowa Veterans Memorial Auditorium, also known as "The Barn".
