New York Railways - also called the New York State Railways:

Several large streetcar systems in upstate New York were part of New York State Railways, one of several interurban railways connecting various cities throughout upstate New York. Between 1926 and 1936, a subsidiary of General Motors purchased New York State Railways, and slowly began a process to dimantle them and replace the electric streetcar lines with slower, less efficient buses. By this action, GM hoped riders would eventually switch to owning cars instead, increasing both GM's profits as well as increasing reliance on car ownership to fulfill their transportation needs. As you can see from this brief partial listing of some of the involved rail companies, streetcar services were either discontinued completely or switched over to buses (Motor Coaches).
