Every major touring team to visit Wales has graced the turf of Rodney Parade, and all of them had their colours lowered in the twentieth century by a side who, in 1951, played in the match at Cardiff that attracted what was, then, a world record crowd of 48,500 for a rugby union match between two clubs. In addition to matches against all the major national sides a highlight of the Newport season was the annual match against the Barbarians, ensuring that the Newport fans had a regular diet of world class players to supplement the Welsh internationals who were a common feature of the 'Black and Ambers'. Newport Rugby Club was established in 1963 and has participated in the NSW Suburban Rugby competition since that time.
The club has in excess of 250 registered players and officials, and we pride ourselves in the fact that we are one of the most successful clubs in the NSW Suburban competition.
The Newport Rugby Club seeks to actively participate in the improvement of the local community, by providing a strong football club for the local youth of the Northern Beaches.

Newport RFC are now one of 16 semi-professional teams playing in the Welsh Premiership League and are one of the clubs that feed the Gwent regional side Newport Gwent Dragons and in fact they have a number of players who have Development contracts with the regional side.
Newport Rugby Club has had many successful seasons but when one looks at what this club has achieved and contributed both to the game in Wales and world-wide they will see that it can rightfully claim to be one of the greatest rugby clubs in the world.
Newport had phenomenal success on the field and in the 10 years that the South Wales Challenge Cup was run in the 1870's and 1880's Newport won it 5 times and were runners up on 2 occasions.
