Ngurah Rai Airport (IATA : DPS , ICAO : WADD ), also known as Bali International Airport , is located in southern Bali , 15 km south of Denpasar . It is Indonesia 's second-busiest international airport, after Jakarta 's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The airport is located close to the extensive tourist developments of southern Bali; the resort center of Kuta is 2.5 km north of the airport. Bali's International Airport is actually located in Tuban - Kuta but is listed with the airlines under the islands capital city's name Denpasar . Ngurah Rai Airport started operations in 1931 by using a grass runway. The runway was lengthened to 3000 metres , the taxiways relocated, and the airport updated with new navigational aids and aircraft refueling facilities.
