Nikkah is the contract between a bride and bridegroom and part of a Islamic marriage. This contract requires the consent of both parties and allows both parties to add conditions. Islam does allow divorce so this contract is revocable.

well i had my nikkah almost a year before my rukhsati (mainly cuz my hubby was in pak at the time of the nikkah)...i actually got all dressed up and my cousin did my makeup....but it was all at home....even had a mehndi the day before for my nikkah...
On the other hand, my mumani had a small nikkah in her own home cuz they did the nikkah early for immigration reasons and she just wore a nice shalwar kamiz.
