Career

Nikolay Kudryavtsev graduated from the Department of Molecular and Chemical Physics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1973 [1]. He received his Ph.D. in physics and mathematics from the same institute in 1977. Dr. Kudryavtsev worked at MIPT at various positions including Molecular Physics Chair and dean of the Department of Molecular and Chemical Physics. He became professor in 1990. Since June 1997 he serves as rector at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. In 2007 he was elected to Schlumberger Board of Directors [2]. Professor Kudryavtsev is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia for Scientific Programs. Nikolai Alexandrovich Kudryavtsev Russian: Николай Александрович Кудрявцев (Opochka, October 21, 1893 - Leningrad, December 12, 1971) was a Russian petroleum geologist.
Kudryavtsev conducted regional geological studies that resulted in discoveries of commercial oil and gas in the Grozny district (Chechnya Autonomy), Central Asia, Timan-Pechora, and other regions of the Soviet Union.
Kudryavtsev introduced a number of other relevant observations into the argument about the theory of abiogenic petroleum origin.

Kudryavtsev analyzed the hypothesis of a biological origin of petroleum, and pointed out the failures of the claims then commonly put forth to support that hypothesis.
Kudryavtsev was soon joined by numerous other Russian and Ukrainian geologists, among the first of whom were P. Kropotkin, K. Shakhvarstova, G. Dolenko, V. Linetskii, V. Porfir’yev, and K. Anikiev.
Kudryavtsev, Kropotkin, Dolenko, Porfir’yev and the developers of the modern theory of petroleum were all geologists.
