Significance

Nirvana was the third Nirvana album to be released following the suicide of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain in April 1994, and the first to feature studio material. It contains the previously unreleased "You Know You're Right," a song recorded during the band's final studio session on January 30, 1994. The album also includes a brief selection of the band's more popular songs, culled mostly from 1991's Nevermind and 1993's In Utero, but also containing three pre-Nevermind songs and two recorded during the band's MTV Unplugged set in late 1993. Nirvana opened at #3 on the Billboard 200, but received criticism from longtime fans for being too short and omitting key tracks. Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 – ca. ... Lawsuit

Nirvana was released following the settlement of a long-standing legal dispute between Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. Much of the dispute centred around "You Know You're Right," which Novoselic and Grohl wanted to release on a long-delayed Nirvana box set, but which Love felt had commercial potential, and should be put out on a single-disc collection instead. [1] Courtney Love (born July 9, 1964) was the singer for the now-defunct rock band Hole. ... Nirvana Album Reviews (7410 words)
The album’s other energy-blast is “Territorial Pissings,” which is about the only song on this album that could qualify as ‘punk’ (using the clichéd definition of “fast and aggressive rock song that speeds ahead so fast you’re ruining the seat cover”).
Before the release of their sophomore album, no one predicted these scruffy guys would become one of the biggest bands in the world, selling millions of albums, selling out all the venues and leaving their mark on pop culture (remember how even all those pop acts and 80’s hair metal bands suddenly restyled themselves?).
Also on the album are the melodic “Been a Son,”; the early Nirvana-classic “Sliver,”; the exciting b-side “Aneurysm,” and, for the completists, the garagey “Spank Thru,” one of the band’s earliest songs, and the album’s only ‘unknown’ song.
