Nokia Series 60 is a platform for mobile phones that use Symbian OS.


Series 60 is currently amongst the leading smartphone platforms in the world. It is licensed by some of the foremost mobile phone manufacturers in the world including Siemens, Samsung, Panasonic, Sendo and Nokia.


The Series 60 Platform is a multivendor standard for smartphones that supports application development in JavaMIDP, C++, and browsing environments.


On 22nd December 2004, Nokia released Python for Series 60 (http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,,034-821,00.html).


These are a few common features in Series 60:

  • Devices display resolution is 176 x 208.
  • It supports Java (J2ME/MIDP 1.0) + applications and Symbian C++ applications.
  • It is designed to be easy and fast to use.
  • It provides versatile and powerful application framework.

Currently (as of 2004) there are multiple different Series 60 versions in the market which contains following devices:


Series 60 - Version 0.9 with Symbian 6.1

Series 60 - Version 1.x with Symbian 6.1

Series 60 - Version 2.x with Symbian 7.0s

Version 2.0 utilizes new features like J2ME/MIDP 2.0 support and themes

Series 60 - Version 2.x with Symbian 8.0

Symbian 8.0 has support for 3G networks.
