A 'noose' is a loop at the end of a rope tied with a knot used for entrapment or hanging. Sometimes used by hunters in the sport of stalking, killing, or capture of wild animals, the noose is also linked with lawful and unlawful execution of human beings as a means of capital punishment and extreme demonstrations of prejudice or discrimination associated with lynching. In lynching, the noose need not be used to actually hang an individual but may be used as a kind of sign communicating a terrorist threat involving intimidation or a threat to commit violence with intent to place a person in fear of imminent serious injury. Hanging as a method of capital punishment in the United States of America is legally authorized in only three states: Washington, Deleware, and New Hampshire. New Hampshire authorizes hanging only if lethal injection cannot be given. In Deleware those whose capital offense occurred before 6/13/86 may select lethal injection or hanging. Washington utilizes lethal injection unless the inmate under sentence of death chooses hanging as the preferred method of execution. The noose has also traditionally been known as a suicide method; the knot associated with this is the Hangman's knot, which is also known as the "hangman's noose". Similar knots include the running bowline, the tarbuck knot and the slip knot. Image File history File links Question_book-3. ...
