Afterwards it was found out that the results of Haug and Grøttumsbråten should have been disqualified: as a men of Nordic combined their weren't enter their names in this game. Tapani Niku wasn't however willing to be awarded a gold medal. Later he was rewarded the medal of French Alp Club.

The ski jumping event held at the 1924 Winter Olympics was unusual, as the bronze medallist was not properly rewarded until 50 years later. Originally, Thorleif Haug had been awarded third place, but a calculation error had been made, which was discovered in 1974. The winner of the competition Jacob Tullin Thams also won a silver medal in Sailing at the 1936 Summer Olympics, he is among very few athlets to win both a winter and a summer olympic medal. Ski jumping is a winter sport in which skiers go down a hill with a take-off ramp (the jump), attempting to go as far as possible. ... A winter sports week with speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey and Nordic skiing was planned, but the 1916 Olympics were cancelled after the outbreak of World War I.
The 1940 Winter Olympics had originally been awarded to Japan, and were supposed to be held in Sapporo, but Japan had to give the Games back in 1938, because of the Japanese invasion of China in the Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945).
Nordic combiner Ulrich Wehling and figure skater Irina Rodnina both won their third consecutive gold medals in the same event, while biathlete Aleksander Tikhonov won his fourth one in the relay.
