North Canberra is a district of Canberra, the capital city of Australia, comprised of 15 suburbs with 15,150 dwellings housing 40,455 people of the 311,518 people in the Australian Capital Territory (June 2001 Census). Many of the oldest dwellings are in the inner-north suburbs.
The NorthCanberra Community Council NCCC is an incorporated, voluntary, not for profit, community based association operating within the NorthCanberraDistricts of the Australian Capital Territory.
NCCC is formally recognised as the peak community representative body in NorthCanberra representing the interests of the local residents and the communities within NorthCanberra.
The NorthCanberraDistrict includes the suburbs of Acton, Ainslie, Braddon, Campbell, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, Lyneham, O’Connor,
Parts of Canberra'snorth and south were further developed in the 1950s, and urban development in the districts of Woden Valley and Belconnen commenced in the mid and late 1960s, respectively.
Canberra is home to many national monuments and institutions such as the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery currently housed at Old Parliament House, the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, and the National Museum of Australia.
Canberra's railway station is in the inner south suburb of Kingston.
