North Harbour is the name of a suburb of North Shore city, in the conurbation of Auckland, new Zealand. It is located 12 kilometres north of Auckland city centre, to the south of the town of Albany, close oto the northern edge of North Shore.
The name "North Harbour" also has a more general usage referring to all parts of the Auckland conurbation sited to the north of the Waitemata Harbour this inclused the entirety of North Shore city, plus parts of Waitakere city. The name thus applied finds its most common usage when referring to the North Harbour provincial rugby team, which plays in the National Provincial Championship.
North Shore City (usually informally just the North Shore, or sometimes The Shore or NorthHarbour) in NewZealand is one of several officially recognized cities in the Auckland metropolitan area, and most densely populated city in the country.
North Shore is bounded by Rodney District to the north, Waitemata Harbour to the south and the Rangitoto Channel of the Hauraki Gulf to the east.
As of the 2001 census, the median household income for North Shore residents was $53,355, the second-highest in NewZealand compared with a national average of $39,588.
The NorthHarbour Rugby Union was formed in 1985 and during this time has developed a reputation for playing colourful and entertaining rugby through all grades which no doubt is a result of the vibrant surroundings.
NorthHarbour has also enjoyed a great deal of success on the rugby field having produced many All Blacks and other NewZealand representative players, and also winning the 3rd and 2nd division titles in the early years, and making the final series of the nations NPC competition on several occasions during the 90’s.
NorthHarbour is also one of the three provinces in the ‘Blues’ Rugby Super 14 franchise which takes part in the annual Southern Hemisphere Rugby Super 14 competition (Rebel Sport Super 14).
